Family Date Night :: Creating Family Memories

0

Traditionally, when you think of Date Night, you think of getting a babysitter, getting glammed up, and finding something that would look great on you.

You and your partner finally decide where to go: do you want Chinese food, BBQ? Oh, but you have to go somewhere with really good drinks? But what happens when you have 4 kids and are trying to save money? And you just want to relax, but have fun at the same time? With so many kids in our house, we are now homebodies, and we do Family Date Nights once a week, usually Saturday nights. And we have regular alone Date Nights throughout the month.

If you would have told me years ago, that this is what our Saturday Night Turn Up would be, I would have laughed.

But we actually love it and go all out for it sometimes. So it starts out on Thursday evening while I and hubby are writing our grocery list and menu for the following week. Friday nights are our grocery shopping day, and that is where we find our movies from Red Box. High five for being somewhat organized.

Once hubby gets home Saturday morning from working a couple hours overtime, he takes a nap. Then the fun starts. Throw some laundry and house cleaning into the mix, again, then the turn up is fun in the Elliott Household. Once the house is clean, then it is relaxation for the rest of the weekend.

My air fryer gets so much play on the weekends. Seriously, that machine is heaven-sent. I cook all of the food in there, everything from chicken wings to mozzarella sticks, potstickers and more. Hubby is making his ranch dip that everyone loves. The kids are getting their blankets and pillows and making sure everything on their end is done. And our mommy and dad drinks are being made.

Once everything is done, we put the movies on. We eat, laugh and talk. In the evening time, we get out a game and play together. Then we watch React on YouTube (thank goodness for smart TV’s). My kids live for the weekends when we do Family Date Night. We are foodies and they love trying out new restaurants and we do that maybe every other week.

When is the last time that you had a Family Date Night? They are fun and you make so many memories with your kids. To the point where they ask if their friends can come and join! It is perfect, especially after having a busy week with work and school.
