COVID-19 has certainly changed how we live. As a mom of a 2.5-year-old and one-year-old, I’ve found our outings are quite simple lately. The beach, a neighbor’s pool, a trail, the Zoo or Safari Park (getting fancy), or anywhere we can see animals!
If you are looking for a fun and simple outing, consider checking out Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center and feeding their goats and sheep. I went to their pumpkin patch last fall and didn’t even realize they had animals there to feed! Unlike during the pumpkin patch, you won’t find crowds. In fact, we were one of maybe five families there and everyone stayed socially distant.
When you arrive, you can buy bags of feed from their general store for fifty cents apiece. I bought six bags and that lasted us a while! The animals come right up to eat out of your hands and they have a bunch of baby goats!
You can also go into the store to sample (and buy) the most delicious fudge. We packed some snacks and had a light lunch on their lawn after feeding the animals. It’s hot in Valley Center so go early in the day but there was quite a bit of shade so that was great!
Below is a video of our outing which was so much fun!
Where are you taking your kids for fun these days? Let me know in the comments section.

Great activity with your kids and they have the cutest baby goats there! You can buy feed in the store for $0.50 each and then feed the friendly animals. @batesnutfarm is in Valley Center and be sure to sample all their amazing fudge too! We came home with 1.5 pounds of it! Yum! . . . #familyfun #toddleractivities #goatsofinstagram #babygoats #momvlogger #batesnutfarm #feedingtheanimals #getoutdoors #summerfun #thingstodosandiego
