These Book Have All the Koalifications: Top 3 San Diego Zoo Kids Books

8

Looking for new books to bolster your kiddos’ collection? If you ask me, books about animals are always a good way to go. The San Diego Zoo offers a wide variety of wonderful titles for kids. After much deliberation I have narrowed down my top three to share with you all. As a bonus, all these books are available to order online as well as in-person at the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park.

1. Paws, Hoofs, and Wings: Animal Heroes of the San Diego Zoo

This book by Shari Lyon follows Speed the tortoise and Pongo, an infant orangutan, on a journey around the San Diego Zoo. This book not only shares the zoo’s wonderful history but it also shares some cute stories about some of the zoo’s first residents. My favorite part is the song that Speed sings to Pongo. Especially since young kids connect so strongly to songs. It’s a catchy tune that your kids will love to hear, whether you sing it yourself or play it on the accompanying disc. Our little one always does a little dance to the song at the end of the book. If you’re interested in purchasing this book online you can find it here.

2. Ruuxa and Raina: A Cheetah and a Dog’s True Story of Friendship and Miracles

Part of the zoo’s Hope and Inspiration Series, this book tells the tale of one of San Diego Zoo Global’s cheetah and dog partnerships. This true story will warm not only your little one’s heart but yours as well. Learning about the bond built between these animal friends and all the obstacles they overcome together will teach your kiddos to believe in the power of perseverance and miracles.  And of course, who wouldn’t enjoy all the adorable pictures of the pair. 3. Don’t Let Them Disappear: 12 Endangered Species Across the Globe

There are so many endangered species on our planet and it’s so important that we teach our kids about them. In Chelsea Clinton’s book she shares special facts about just a small portion of these endangered species. The book also shares some ways you and your kids can help to save these species. This is a great book to use to get your kids interested in learning animal facts. The more they learn about these animals the more they will understand the importance of saving them. You can order this book online here.

All three of these books have been great additions to our little library at home. And you will find that you enjoy them just as much as your kids do. Happy reading to you all.
