Founded in 1945, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet has been the resident classical ballet school in Balboa Park for over 75 years – offering affordable, year-round, high-quality classes and productions for dancers ages 4 to adult in the beautiful Casa del Prado.  The organization provides over 500 students with daily ballet classes, produces ballet productions for over 20,000 patrons each year, teaches over 750 students offsite through the Outreach Program, and continues to operate in good financial health with a dedicated staff of full-time and part-time employees, as well as over 200 volunteers.

Each year, three major productions grace the Casa del Prado Theater stage including a full-length spring ballet, Fairy Tales in the Park (benefiting SDCYB’s Scholarship Program) and the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.  There is also an annual school-wide Spring Showcase and the SDCYB Performance Ensemble (featuring advanced dancers) performs at special events throughout the community.  SDCYB offers ballet camps and intensives each summer and has offered the “Ballet for Me!” class for students with disabilities since 2015.  Relationships with school groups and Scout troops continue to develop through discounted tickets to ballet performances.

The mission of SDCYB is to provide the youth of San Diego with an opportunity to study, understand and appreciate, through education and participation, the art of ballet, and to enrich the cultural life of the community.  The Vision Statement reads: “San Diego Civic Youth Ballet believes everyone should have the opportunity to dance.  SDCYB strives to cultivate a learning environment based on integrity and trust and one that values diversity amongst its students, faculty, staff and patrons.  SDCYB promotes excellence in all endeavors and a spirit of service to the San Diego community through sustainable practices that prioritize a child’s desire to dance over their ability to pay.”

Lovely Leaps is a San Diego based dance studio owned by Lisa McCabe. We offer a full range of virtual dance options for ages 0-10 years old! Currently we offer virtual birthday dance parties, have a Descendants Dance Class, Trolls World Tour Dance Class, Princess Ballet Class with Elsa and soooo much more!

Lovely Leaps has been featured on Good Morning America, NBC NEWS, Fox and so many more amazing outlets! The desire for inclusion was the reason these amazing media outlets featured us. Inclusion is so close to Lisa’s heart because when she was younger she often felt that she could never be Clara in the Nutcracker because she was African-American or that she didn’t fit the dancer mold. The surroundings of the dance industry created that type of stigma. When Lisa had her daughter her vision was to change that stigma for the younger generation. Lovely Leaps mission is to cultivate the love of dance in the younger generation, making sure each child feels seen, heard and loved in their dance journey,” Lovely Leaps told GMA.”These last 2 years Lovely Leaps has taught over 300 students ages 9 months to 10 years old the beautiful art of dance. These past 3 months we have taught over 150 kids virtually! Lovely Leaps believes that the early years in dance should be fun creating imagination and joy. Our philosophy is to use the Cecchetti Method of repetition but our personal touch of adding a whimsical spin to dance. The topics we teach are beginning ballet, jazz, lyrical & hip hop.Our heart is to connect with the younger generation introducing them to a Plié or a fun rhythm and beat all while having fun. We can’t wait to teach your little one dance! Let’s Leap into this together!
