Sukkot harvest festival

Sukkot Harvest Festival: A Drive-Thru Experience at Coastal Roots Farm
Sunday, October 4th – Thursday, October 8th

441 Saxony Road, Encinitas, CA 9202 | (760) 479-6505

Coastal Roots Farm and The Hive at Leichtag Commons are putting on their 8th Annual Sukkot Harvest Festival. They can’t wait to host you for this unique Drive-Thru Experience.

During Sukkot they traditionally gather community outdoors to celebrate the end of an abundant summer harvest and welcome in the fall season and all it brings. The Sukkah structure represents a spirit of radical hospitality, and Coastal Roots Farm has been gathering alongside their community year after year. Historically, the Sukkot Harvest Festival has been the Farm’s biggest event of the year.

Roll down your windows and join them as they dive deep into the four species and the traditions of Sukkot. TICKETS: Ticket prices are suggested donations and—like our Farm Stand produce—are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. $12/adult $6/child

5 Hikes Amongst San Diego’s Fall Colors and Foliage

Hike the higher altitudes of San Diego’s Peninsular Ranges that wind through the county to wander amongst the reliable, and often spectacular, fall color shows.

By: Scott Turner, Co-author of the 5th Edition of Afoot and Afield in San Diego County
via San Diego Tourism Authority

1. THUNDER RIDGE AND CHIMNEY FLAT LOOP

Where: Palomar Mountain State Park – 19952 State Park Dr, Palomar Mountain, CA 92060
Heavily wooded Thunder Ridge features a heavy concentration of black oaks mingling amidst stately conifers. The site of golden leaves and dark green pine needles reflected in Doane Pond forms a classic image of Southern California fall color.

2. SUNSET TRAIL

Where: Laguna Mountain Recreation Area – 10678 Sunrise Hwy, Descanso, CA 91948
Although many of the oaks in the Laguna Mountains have suffered under the onslaught of invasive pests, the remaining oaks rimming Laguna Meadow still throw a warm contrast upon an already sublime scene.

3. VOLCAN MOUNTAIN

Where: Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve – 1209 Farmer Road at Wynola Road, Julian, CA 92036
The rounded, wooded slopes of this Julian high point feature some of the oldest and most impressive black oaks in the county. The cool, clear fall atmosphere also enables sweeping views of the desert and coastal halves of the county.

4. LAKE CUYAMACA

Where: Cuyamaca Rancho State Park – 15027 Highway 79, Julian, CA 92036
While most of the forest in Cuyamaca burned during the 2003 Cedar Fire, fire-adapted black oaks are making a strong comeback. The finest parcels of unburned forest surround the lake, and the numerous black oaks contrast nicely against the lake’s placid waters.

5. OBSERVATORY TRAIL

Where: Cleveland National Forest – 35899 Canfield Road, Warner Springs, CA 92061
This wooded trail connects the Palomar Observatory and a popular campground. Black oaks thrive along the north-facing slopes, attaining brilliant oranges during November.
