This is a Girls on the Run of San Diego sponsored post, but as always, all thoughts expressed are 100% my own.

Are you looking for something that will spark joy and confidence in your daughter?

“Girls on the Run… is so much FUN!” It’s not often you hear the words fun and run in the same sentence, but that’s exactly what they’re all about! Girls on the Run (GOTR) of San Diego is a one-of-a-kind after school program for girls that combines physical activity and teamwork. It helps them to develop valuable and impactful life skills.

“When one of my daughters comes home with a friend issue, I am able to pull a skill out of the GOTR toolbox and walk them through solving the problem on their own.  Also, there is nothing better than encouraging your daughter through the end of season 5k and sprinting across the finish line with her to receive her medal.”

Jennifer Berk, Head Coach for our GOTR team at Valley Elementary in Poway

If you’ve been looking for a program that delivers on fun, friendship, and fitness, you definitely want to consider GOTRSD! The program is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in the 3rd-8th grade. The program is built on an evidence-based curriculum and designed to enhance girls’ social, emotional and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. See below for more details on how to register

“They get their life lessons and physical activity at once. I don’t know if that exists elsewhere. These girls take those lessons with them, I’ve seen it in my daughter and my team. I’m so lucky we have this and can give it to our girls.”

–Virginia Lenac, Head Coach for Girls on the RUn team at Ada Harris in Cardiff and mom of two girls who participated in the Girls on the Run program

Girls on the Run San Diego has two seasons per year, which correspond with the traditional school year. Meeting twice per week for 10 weeks, teams of up to 20 girls are lead by (kind and joyful) certified GOTR coaches through lessons that inspire girls make new friends, have fun, and build confidence—all while creatively integrating running. And, at the end of the season, every single girl (over 750 this past Spring) in the program joins to run a celebratory 5k!

This Fall, they are proud to offer elementary and middle school programs at 44 teams throughout San Diego County. Registration is open from now through early October and team practices will begin in mid-September (varies by team). Click here to view a list of teams and important dates.

The positive impact of the GOTR program can be felt throughout the entire family, not just the girls. All girls receive a parent guide to review at home the lessons learned at practice. Moms, dads, guardians, siblings, grandparents, and anyone who is part of a girls’ life can share the experience and participate by becoming a coach, volunteering for the 5K, or training for the athletic event of their choice while raising money for Girls on the Run of San Diego.
