Motherhood is a Rocky Road

0

Motherhood is a rocky road.
Some days everything feels as smooth as a river stone, but most days there are jagged edges, peaks to climb, and boulders to push.
It feels sharp, exhausting, and heavy.
It feels like no one “gets it,” especially those closest to us.
It feels lonely.
It feels like throwing a pebble in a well and waiting for the splash… waiting… waiting… but never hearing it.
Darkness in the chaos.
A haze of nonsense lacking clarity.

Sheesh. That’s depressing!
Well, sometimes it is!!
Literally.
I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but the struggle is real, y’all.

What keeps us sane… normal… afloat?
What keeps us from falling down that well, from being crushed by the weight of the boulder, or sliding down the mountain? You.
You do.
It’s within you.
It never left you.
But sometimes “You” is hard.
So there’s us.
Mothers.
We are united in motherhood.
We get it.
Because we’ve been there.
We are there.
We’ve got your back.

If that boulder feels too heavy, ask for help.
It sounds easy, but it’s not, but you GOTTA do it.
Some way.
Some how.
Meet a mom friend for coffee, we ALWAYS want coffee.
Post in a moms group.
Maybe that feels hard, to be center stage.
So, search in that group and see who else has posted your same issue.
I guarantee you someone else has.
We’ve all been there.
Take time for yourself.
This is an absolute NEED.
We can’t keep going at the selfless rate we do, or we WILL lose ourselves.
We can’t keep doing things the same way, if it keeps producing the same result.
How’s that workin’ for ya?
You don’t drown by going into the water, you drown by staying there.
Claw your way out.
Fight for yourself.
Don’t let that rock drag you to the bottom.
Take that line.
Grab that life preserver.
I just threw it to ya!
Take it!
But YOU have to grab it.
You have to reach.

And when you do, you’ll be able to look in those faces and smile again, and mean it… and feel it.
Maybe not tomorrow.
Maybe not the next day.
But it WILL get better.
So fight, mama, fight.
And, reach, mama, reach.
You don’t have to push that boulder alone.
Let’s climb that peak together.
We’ll smooth those jagged edges while our kids make messes.
I’ll hold your hand as we travel the rocky road.

All they want is you… smiling… at them… with them.
And, I know you want to smile, too.
So, we got you.
You got this.

Suzanne is a work-at-home mama to 3 girls and the wife of a Yankee lovin', craft-beer drinkin' Oregonian. She has a passion for natural living, free range parenting and bonding over the real-life ups and downs of motherhood. When she's not building her work-at-home empire and teaching wellness workshops, you can find her ignoring housework and hanging with mama friends at kid-friendly breweries or parks by the beach. It might intrigue you to know Suzanne is a veteran of the United States Army, has worked in the dot-com industry as a techie geek, and sold drugs for 8 years (pharmaceuticals for Pfizer!) before living the momlife. In all her spare time, she stares at unread stacks of fiction and self-development books, dreams about travelling all over the world, longs to follow Michael Franti and Dave Matthews on tour, and drools over home design and cooking shows. You can follow her on instagram @motherrockin and she welcomes like-minded mom friends when you track her down on Facebook. (No, it's NOT completely weird to friend a stranger)
