Sweat Now, Chill Later: A Review of “The Women’s Health Big Book of 15-Minute Workouts”

As moms, getting the exercise we need can be a task that is easier said than done. Personally, this was a big challenge for me when I first became a mom. It was easier to make an excuse and skip it. Then one day I watched my little one watching me lounge on the couch and in that moment, I knew the excuses had to stop. I vowed to exercise for at least thirty minutes a day everyday from then on.

No More Excuses

I started small with walks around the neighborhood. I also googled a few simple workouts that I could sneak in when I had time. But then I was gifted a book entitled “The Women’s Health Big Book of 15 Minute Workouts”. The book contains everything from core workouts to yoga, and it has been a lifesaver for me. These workouts are set up so I can sneak them in when I find a spare fifteen minutes, which can be hard for us busy mamas.

Something I love about this book is that it doesn’t just provide you with a bunch of random workouts and leave you alone to figure out how best to do them. The whole introduction to the book is centered around explaining how to put this book to its best use, how to set up the workout schedule that works best for you. There is even a chapter that answers frequently asked questions about these workouts. It sets you up so you understand what you’re getting yourself into and what you can expect to get out of it.

Workouts for Every Mom

This book can work for stay-at-home moms as well as working moms. There are five “Office Warrior” workouts in the book that you can do easily at work. These workouts are in addition to several anywhere workouts. One of my favorite potential workouts for stay-at-home moms has to be the “Playground Workout”. It allows you to use the same playground equipment your kids are playing on as workout equipment. It’s definitely a win-win workout for me.

I am not seeing the pounds melt away while using this book, but I am seeing progress. I feel healthier and stronger every day. For sure the most priceless reward this book has given me is watching my daughter try to mimic me while I am working out. I can feel good about the fact that I am setting a good example of staying healthy for her.
