Fashionista Mama on a Budget: My Sister’s Closet

0

If you haven’t noticed already, I love fashion. Of course, my wallet might not always agree with my taste…

And although I will shop retail, there are some things too good to pass up. One of those are the incredible deals and quality of items consigned at My Sister’s Closet.

I personally consign there as well as buy. Now, I’m not a huge designer junkie, but hey, they’ll even take that lightly used Michael Kors purse, Ray Bans or Tom Ford Sunglasses, so why not?

And when I say lightly used, I mean, lightly used. They don’t take any scratched up/stained stuff (unless it’s something like those Golden Goose sneakers that are all the rave). As a consignee, you get 45% in cash what they sold your items for, OR 55% in store credit. All you have to do is create an account, bring in those beauties collecting dust in your closet, and voila!

The stakes get better if you consign anything that sells above $995. You get more $$ or credit back, which is amazing because you’ll see plenty Chanel, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, and brands I don’t even know!

The absolute best deals, I feel, are on jewelry and purses. These are items that are grossly overpriced at retail stores, even at outlets. You can get diamond earrings, rings, gemstones, Tiffany, gold, at prices that are quite fair, in my opinion. (Eeek! I feel like I am revealing too good a secret here!)

Now, of course, shopping here has a lot do with luck. They post some items online, and going to the store can be a grand adventure. As far as attire, you’ll see plenty of Lululemon, Athleta, Hudson, Rag & Bone, Paul Frank, Ted Baker, Chicos, Michael Kors, Anthropologie brands like Free People; basically just about any designer brand you can think of.

Here in San Diego, there are two locations: Encinitas and La Jolla. The La Jolla store is literally accross the street from UTC Nordstrom, in the Costa Verde shopping center (that’s the one I go to).

In Encinitas you can also find the Men’s version of My Sister’s Closet called Well Suited. There is also a store called My Sister’s Attic for designer, lightly-used furniture and home decor.

There really is something for everyone when it comes to this family of stores!

Check them out here.

Following are just 2 of my favorite items I’ve bought in the past, almost brand new in quality, at way less than half retail!

So, if you’re ready to get your Fall update or some sparkle in your life, take a look. No budget left after Back to School shopping? Bring your gently used items (has to have sold for more than $50 retail), see what they’ll take and you can start saving!

Are you a bargain shopper? What are your go-to’s?
